My name is James Poynter, Jimmie to most people, and I have declared my intent to run for the office of Pendleton County Judge Executive.  I have been a registered Republican for over 25 years. My wife, Brenda, and I live outside of Butler in Ducker Woods. We have three adult children and one grandchild. We moved to Pendleton County eight years ago to enjoy the country atmosphere and slower pace. This is my first venture into politics as a candidate. My years as a law enforcement officer have always prohibited me from serving as an elected public official.

Why am I running?

Pendleton County friends asked me to seek the office to provide a new vision for the county representing all its citizens, by applying my experience and leadership philosophy.

Why vote for me?

I have a proven record of working with others to compromise, when appropriate, to move an organization forward. My experience as a police officer and small business manager, along with my formal education, has prepared me to take on the role of Pendleton County Judge Executive. With the upcoming election, the citizens of Pendleton County can elect a leader with a new vision, and I would be that leader who will work for every citizen without a focus on personal gain.

About Us

My Work Experience

For the past 29 years, I have worked as a law enforcement officer serving in Campbell, Kenton, and now Grant County. Over those 29 years, I obtained more than 2,500 hours of public safety training and supervised many law enforcement activities.  After retiring from “the road”, I became a school resource officer and currently serve with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.  The last eight years as an SRO have given me insight and experience into the educational system. I have presented on the state and national level on relationship building between the police and school administration.

My Education

I attended college first at Northern Kentucky University before obtaining my associate’s degree in criminal justice and later a bachelor’s degree in Applied and Technical Science, Leadership and Administration from the University of Cincinnati-Clermont College.
